Sunday School

During the school year Sunday school meets during the 10am worship service. After the students meet for Music, they are dismissed to their classrooms.

Classes are provided for age 3 through 5th grade. Children are divided into classes age appropriately and according to number of children registered and number of staff available.

Each class is staffed by at least 2 teachers each Sunday.

All our staff is volunteer and well qualified. Each teacher has been screened through an application process, has passed a Washington State background check and been certified in Safeguarding God’s Children Training.

The Sunday school is curriculum is Witness: Learning from the Bible to live the Good News.

Sunday School At A Glance 2017

This semester, Big Buddies in 4th & 5th grades will team with Little Buddies in younger grades.

Pairing of varying age groups has many benefits.

Big Buddies: the adage there is no better way to learn than to teach.

Little Buddies: individual attention from a “big kid”.

Our excellent Sunday school teachers will always be in the classroom to lead, facilitate and supervise the success of the lesson.

Our 6th through 12th graders follow a mixed curriculum.

CHILDREN’S ACTIVITY TIME -

Children will begin in church all summer long and on special Sundays throughout the school year.

The children will follow their leaders to the Sunday School Building after the gospel.

The lesson will be based on the lectionary readings.

Picture books will be chosen to reinforce the lesson in a way that applies to their lives and makes them

wonder about God in the world.

There will also be time to play games, do crafts and hang-out in a safe supervised environment.

As always, children are welcome to worship with their parents and will find activities, small toys and books in the SE corner of the sanctuary.

Confirmation

Confirmation curriculum will be offered to our Middle School Youth Group beginning in January. We invite participation and leave the decision for confirmation to the student after he/she has completed the course of study. We will join the entire Diocese for Confirmation at St. Mark’s Cathedral in late Spring. Private confirmation class mentoring will be made available by request for older students.

Holy Communion

Although all baptized children may receive communion, we offer a Holy Communion class for third grade and up every two years to teach them about the Holy Eucharist and to start building the blocks of understanding.

Holy Communion instruction begins in early winter and culminates with a celebration on Mother’s Day. A series of ten classes led by Jan Langton present a foundation of understanding to the Sacrament of Holy Communion for students. Our next class will be offered in February , 2018.

Safeguarding God’s Children

Attention all nursery, children’s and youth volunteers, vestry and staff!

Bishop Rickel is committed to ensuring the safety of all our children and to that end has instituted the requirement of the in-person training program, Safeguarding God’s Children as well as background checks.

This mandate is for all active clergy, all paid employees, and any persons regularly working with youth such as Sunday school teachers, substitutes, Music leaders and Nursery attendants to attend once every five years. Please find one of the upcoming sessions available throughout the Diocese listed at our Diocesan web site www.ecww.org.
