Newcomer and Member Support Ministries

“Contribute to the needs of the saints; extend hospitality to strangers… (indeed) do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it.” Romans 12:13; Hebrews 13:2

Greeters welcome the congregation into the family of Holy Cross each Sunday. This is especially important for newer members. The smile and handshake of the greeter will often form their first impression of the church and will be their first opportunity to associate a name with a face. Greeters will be at the doors of the church fifteen minutes before each service and will encourage people to wear name tags to help all of us get better acquainted.

Lay Eucharistic Visitors

Trained and licensed Eucharistic visitors take the sacrament to those who are ill, home-bound, or in the hospital. When visiting, a team member brings the Eucharist, prays and shares the service of that day. Visits are usually one hour every other week and can be adjusted to meet members’ schedules. This ministry requires training and a Diocesan license.

Those of you interested in reading and books are invited to join the library committee. We accept and acknowledge donations to the library, set up self-check-out systems, develop and maintain an inventory list of our library resources and encourage use of the library. This is a new ministry so can be shaped as those involved determine.

Marriage Mentoring

Marriage mentoring is a couple’s ministry designed to provide support to those couples who feel overwhelmed by family life. We provide a mentoring couple to help you through the rough spots, selecting a couple in the area and aligning their passion and experience with your needs. The material used as a reference guide comes from Dr. Les & Leslie Parrott, Seattle Pacific professors and marriage and family therapists. Les is the author of the book, “Becoming Soul Mates.”

Newcomers Team

The Newcomers Team is committed to making Holy Cross a more comfortable and welcoming place for visitors and new members. Activities to accomplish this goal include seeking out unfamiliar faces and encouraging current members to do the same; facilitating the communication between newcomers and the church; and organizing functions to help recognize the admission of newcomers into our church.

Prayer Chain

This is a special ministry open to anyone wishing to be an intercessory pray-er. Participants on the Prayer Chain pray regularly for specific requests made by Parish members on behalf of their friends and families. Prayer requests are called into the leader who works with the caller to ensure that the request is complete. If you would like to join this group or make a prayer request, contact Karen Smith ~ KarenSmith05@earthlink.net.

Prayer and Healing Ministry

This is an intercessory prayer ministry done in church or at any other place needed. Prayer is for an illness, freedom from a sin, strength to overcome addictions, etc. All baptized people have the gift for praying, as the Lord works through them to bring healing. If you are interested in leading or being a member, please contact us.

The reception team works with families to arrange receptions and provide for the needs of the family following burial or memorial services. Usually between two and five volunteers are needed to set up and serve beverages and food (usually provided) and to clean up as needed. This is a ministry of hospitality to others as they are going through a difficult time. Help is needed on short notice several times a year.
