Welcome to Holy Cross Church
“Nothing’s Over like Christmas” My mother said, to describe the sudden shift of mood in society and church after Christmas Eve. The season of Advent is one of preparation for the birth of the Christ Child. Advent is a time of busy and intentional, and sometimes frantic, last minute “nesting behaviors.” Christmas Eve is most certainly the day of Labor and Delivery, replete with all of the spectacular emotions involved. Exhausted, we conclude with the candle-lit lullaby singing of Silent Night. Shhhh. “There ain’t no reason good enough to wake a sleeping baby,” so says my sister, Ellen. On Christmas Day and thereafter we suddenly know that Everything has changed in our lives forever. The Word has become flesh and now lives with us. There is no return to normal. In a way, now the real work has begun. While it would be difficult to live constantly in frenetic nesting behavior, and impossible to sustain the throes of labor, it is possible to live “Life and Life Abundantly” with Jesus present in our midst. “Nothing’s over like Christmas,” it’s true. And after Christmas comes New Life in Jesus Christ our Lord. ~ Fr. Jim Eichner
