“Like good stewards for the manifold grace of God, serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received.”  — 1 Peter 4:10

Two Scout Troops share our Fellowship Hall throughout the month. Troop 8711, an all female group, meets weekly at 7:00 on Tuesdays evenings. Boys’ Troop 557 meets the first three Wednesdays of the month at 7:00pm.

Twelve churches on the Eastside open their doors (and kitchens) to homeless men for one month each year. The men are able to sleep in the church and receive breakfast, lunch and dinner. To qualify, they must be actively seeking to improve their situation through interviewing for employment or, if employed, saving money towards a deposit for a rental. The congregation of Holy Cross assists St. Thomas Episcopal Church in July and Redmond United Methodist Church in January by providing dinners at the respective churches for these men. There are usually 25 men in the program. Sign-up sheets are available four weeks in advance. Families, youth groups and men’s groups are encouraged to sign up. For more information, please visit their website or contact Holy Cross coordinator Teresa Guenther.

A regional nonprofit organization working to end poverty in our community, each year Hopelink helps more than 64,000 people through programs that provide stability and the skills and knowledge needed to exit poverty. The congregation of the Church of the Holy Cross is a proud and active supporter of their important work.

Kairos is an international interdenominational Christian ministry presented in men’s and women’s prisons in October and April over a 3½-day weekend. Volunteers attend Saturday morning team meetings (usually eight) during the three months preceding the weekend. The purpose of Kairos is to establish strong Christian communities among the populations of correctional institutions. Holy Cross members who have attended Cursillo or other three-day renewal movements are eligible to work on a team.

Seafarers of all ages and nationalities work an average of 80 hours a week (plus overtime) to bring us these necessary goods and, as an international population, are often exploited. Work on board ships can be isolating, and seafarers are at a much higher risk for depression, divorce, and suicide.

With an average of 30 ships per month coming into the Port of Seattle, Mission to Seafarers serves those who work on board cargo, container ships, and bulk carriers by providing essential human services.

Redmond Interfaith Blood Drives

Under Holy Cross leadership, four churches in Redmond (Holy Cross, Redmond United Methodist, Redmond Presbyterian, and Meadowbrook) have banded together to help meet our community’s need for 800 units of blood per day. Bloodworks Northwest provides the technicians, and we connect with the donors in this gift of one hour that saves as many as three lives. Blood drives are held every two months with announcements in The Cross and The Messenger. We also provide homemade cookies. For more information, please contact blood@holycrossredmond.org.
